Torsten N. Wiesel autographed First Day Cover commemorating Wildlife Conservation and the American Bison, postmarked Custer, South Dakota, on July 20, 1970. The ArtCraft cacheted cover bears a block of four 6-cent Wildlife Conservation stamps and is signed prominently in black ink by Wiesel across the lower portion.

Torsten N. Wiesel (1924-2024) was a Swedish neurophysiologist who shared the 1981 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with David H. Hubel for discoveries concerning information processing in the visual system. Their research demonstrated how cells in the visual cortex respond to specific features of visual stimuli and helped establish key principles of modern neuroscience. Wiesel later served as president of Rockefeller University and remained an influential figure in biomedical research and science policy.
