Phillip Allen Sharp (born 1944) is an American molecular biologist who shared the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Richard J. Roberts for the discovery of split genes and RNA splicing. His work helped transform the understanding of gene structure and the processing of genetic information in eukaryotic cells. Sharp was a longtime member of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology faculty and became a major figure in modern molecular biology.
