Herbert Kroemer autographed First Day Cover commemorating Mount McKinley National Park and the National Parks Centennial, postmarked Mount McKinley, Alaska, on June 28, 1972. The ArtCraft cacheted cover bears a block of four 15-cent National Parks Centennial stamps and is signed in blue ink by Kroemer across the lower portion.

Herbert Kroemer (1928-2024) was a German-American physicist who shared the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics with Zhores Alferov and Jack Kilby for developing semiconductor heterostructures used in high-speed and optoelectronic devices. His theoretical work helped establish the foundation for technologies including semiconductor lasers, satellite communications, fiber-optic systems, and high-frequency electronics. Kroemer spent much of his academic career at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
