Ezzard Charles (1921-1975) was an American professional boxer and one of the leading heavyweight fighters of his era. Known as the "Cincinnati Cobra," Charles became World Heavyweight Champion in 1949 after defeating Jersey Joe Walcott and later scored a celebrated victory over Joe Louis in 1950. Regarded as one of boxing's great light heavyweight and heavyweight competitors, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
