Robert E. Simanek autographed First Day Cover commemorating the 1890s Railroad Caboose Transportation Series, postmarked Rosemont, Illinois, on February 3, 1984. The ArtCraft cacheted cover bears a pair of 11-cent Caboose coil stamps and is signed prominently in black ink by Simanek, who added "Medal of Honor, USMC, Korea 1952."

Robert Ernest Simanek (1930-2022) was a United States Marine who received the Medal of Honor for heroism during the Korean War. On August 17, 1952, while serving with Company F, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Simanek threw himself onto an enemy grenade to shield fellow Marines from the explosion. He survived his wounds and was presented the Medal of Honor by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953.
