Ernest Childers autographed First Day Cover honoring the Four Chaplains, postmarked Washington, D.C., on May 28, 1948. The ArtCraft cacheted cover bears the 3-cent Four Chaplains commemorative stamp and is signed prominently by Childers, who added extensive handwritten notations including "Honor, Duty & Country," his service with the 45th Division, reference to his Choctaw heritage, and "Medal of Honor, 22 Sept. 1943, Oliveto, Italy, W.W. II."

Ernest Childers (1918-2005) was a United States Army officer and Medal of Honor recipient of Muscogee Creek heritage. Serving with the 45th Infantry Division during World War II, he received the Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism in action near Oliveto, Italy, on September 22, 1943. Despite suffering a broken foot, Childers led an assault against enemy positions, personally eliminating machine-gun nests and capturing enemy soldiers.
