Fine condition.
Vernon J. Baker (1919-2010) was a United States Army officer and Medal of Honor recipient who served with the segregated 92nd Infantry Division during World War II. On April 5-6, 1945, near Viareggio, Italy, Baker led his men against heavily defended German positions, personally destroying several enemy installations while under intense fire. His wartime Distinguished Service Cross was upgraded to the Medal of Honor in 1997 following a review of racial disparities in World War II awards. Baker was the only surviving member of the seven Black World War II veterans whose service was recognized with the Medal of Honor as a result of that review.
