James H. "Jimmy" Empey autographed First Day Cover commemorating the "Disabled Doesn't Mean Unable" 18¢ U.S. postage stamp, postmarked Milford, Ohio, June 29, 1981. Empey has added an exceptional multi-line inscription detailing his military service: "1943-1944, 5 Victories, Lt/Col James H. Empey, 52nd FTR Group - 5th FTR Sqdn, 12th - 13th Air Force, Africa, Italy, Spitfire, P-51B Mustang."

Lieutenant Colonel James H. "Jimmy" Empey (1920-1995) was an American fighter ace credited with five aerial victories during World War II. He first flew Supermarine Spitfires with the 52nd Fighter Group in the Mediterranean Theater before transitioning to the North American P-51B Mustang. Serving with the 5th Fighter Squadron, Empey flew combat missions over North Africa and Italy with the Twelfth and later Thirteenth Air Force assignments noted in his inscription.
