Byron Raymond "Whizzer" White (1917-2002) served as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1962 to 1993 following his appointment by President John F. Kennedy. Before joining the Court, White was an All-American football player at the University of Colorado, runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, Rhodes Scholar, and later an NFL star before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. As a Justice, White became known for his pragmatic approach to constitutional interpretation and authored numerous influential opinions across criminal law, civil rights, and federal jurisdiction.
