Richard J. Daley (1902-1976) was an American politician who served as Mayor of Chicago from 1955 until his death in office in 1976. He was elected to six consecutive terms and simultaneously served as chairman of the Cook County Democratic Party, becoming one of the most influential figures in 20th-century Chicago politics.
