Julian Bond (1940-2015) was an American civil rights leader, politician, educator, and writer who became a prominent figure in the movement for racial equality. A co-founder of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, Bond later served in the Georgia legislature and was the first president of the Southern Poverty Law Center. He also served for many years as chairman of the NAACP.
