Walter Thompson Advertising Agency. Steichen produced at least four images, which ran month-to-month in Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, House & Garden, and House Beautiful. The present image was used in the May 1930 campaign, and appeared inset, in a circular vignette on a full-page advertisement for Gorham. Lifetime gelatin silver prints of Steichen's work for Gorham and the J. Walter Thompson agency are exceptionally rare. At the time of this writing, only two other examples are known to have been offered at auction. Lifetime prints can be found in the collections of the Detroit Institute of Arts (F77.89), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (M.2019.398.30), and the Whitney Museum of American Art (2012.206).
