(86.7 x 64.1 cm.) Footnotes: Provenance Phillips de Pury & Company, New York, 1 April 2009, Sale NY040109, Lot 65 Acquired from the above by the present owner Note In order to make his Iris prints, Peter Beard constructed the overall image from a variety of materials. In the case of the present work, the design includes an MRI photograph, collaged materials, hand-coloring, and inked inscriptions as well as margin paintings by Mwangi and Kivoi. The final composition was then reproduced as a limited-edition Iris print. Beard individually signed, dated, and annotated in pencil each sheet from this edition of 25. His inscription in the lower left margin notes that this work was made in conjunction with the book Peter Beard: Fifty Years of Portraits, published by Arena Editions in 1999 to commemorate the exhibition of the same title presented at Fahey/Klein Gallery, Los Angeles, in March 1998.
