The 16th official release from the legendary Islay distillery, it was drawn from refill American oak hogsheads and refill European oak butts and bottled at natural cask strength. Port Ellen ceased production in 1983, and its increasingly limited stocks subsequently became some of the most sought-after whiskies from a closed Scottish distillery. At the time of release, this 37 Year Old was the oldest official Port Ellen bottling to date, with just 2,940 individually numbered bottles produced. Producer Tasting Notes: Nose: Malt and tropical fruit on a base of artist's oils, then rising aromas of tiramisu, rie red apples, bananas and smoked meats, backed by a savoury thread of wood smoke. Palate: Sweet and gingery, with hints of burnt orange and toffee. Finish: The long finish is warming, smoky and gently aromatic, with notes of sandalwood and incense.
