Description
C. Bisshop? 19th century, Young Woman Doing Handwork in the Living Room, oil on wood, signs of age, 29 x 23 cm, framed 49 x 43 cm. The high-quality painting beautifully describes details such as the still life with yarn and scissors, the fur trim on the woman’s clothing, and her delicate facial features. An expert appraisal by Prof. D.W. Vogelzang (ca. 1930) identifies the painting as an authentic work by de Bisschop (Cornelis, a student of Ferdinand Bol). The RKD lists it as a work by Christoffel Bisshop, accompanied by a photograph from 1961 provided by the Kunsthistorische Galerie Internationale in The Hague. In a letter dated January 10, 1969, to a prospective buyer, the owner highlights the rarity of the painting, which is considered an old Dutch work by Bisshop.
