PATEK PHILIPPE. AN 18K YELLOW GOLD ASYMMETRICAL MANUAL WIND CONVERTED WRISTWATCH Model: Ricochet Reference: 788/4J Date: c. 1966 Movement: Cal. 23-300, 18-jewel manual wind, Geneva Seal, no. 799'997 Dial: Textured champagne Case: 18k yellow gold, snap on case back with special engravings, later added hidden lugs, no. 319'481 Strap/Bracelet: Textured leather strap with 18k yellow gold buckle Signed: Case, dial and movement Size: 42 x 36mm Accompaniments: None Footnotes: Introduced during the 1960s, Reference 788 'Ricochet' is distinguished by its asymmetrical case, designed by Gilbert Albert during his tenure at Patek Philippe. Its geometric form and textured surfaces represented a departure from the more conventional round and rectangular cases of the period. The present example, dating to circa 1966, retains its textured champagne dial and asymmetrical case in 18k yellow gold. It was subsequently converted for wristwatch use by the present owner and has been cherished and worn since, adding a unique personal history to this distinctive timepiece. Notably, it comes from the same collection as the previously sold Ricochet example. Please note that Bonhams has applied for an 'Extract from the Archives' from Patek Philippe Archives but the Extract has not yet been issued and may not be available by the date of the auction. The lot is sold 'as is' without any Extract and Bonhams does not guarantee Patek Philippe Archives will issue the Extract.
