Introduced in 1969, the Reference 1680 was the first Submariner with the date display and accompanying Cyclops magnifying lens. Produced in stainless steel as well as 18k gold, the model was offered with a variety of configurations, including matte black dials and bezels in stainless steel examples and blue dials and bezels in gold examples. As with the present example, early Reference 1680s are particularly appreciated for their matte dials, painted marker without the white gold surrounds and tritium luminous material.
