A North Italian patinated bronze tripartite sculptural base, probably for a model of Calvary Venetian or Paduan, 16th century, perhaps in manner of Severo Calzetta da Ravenna (1465-1543) Moulded with rockwork, vegetation and small lizards, all rising to the base of the cross (now an aperture) and before an outcrop encircled by a coiling serpent, the whole (also lacking other apertures for additional details) above a pierced roundel frieze and foliated moulding, raised on paw feet, 20cm high, 25cm wide, 23cm deep Footnotes: The Victoria and Albert Museum houses a comparable bronze model of L'Inferno (Hell) once associated with the sculptor Bartolomeo Bellano (c. 1434-1497) which was later more cautiously reclassified within the Donatello-Riccio-Paduan workshop orbit - see A.9-1930.
