RENÉ LALIQUE (1860-1945) Comète (Comet) designed 1925 Marcilhac 1112, clear glass engraved 'R.LALIQUE FRANCE', hand finished, original Breves Galleries nickel plated steel mount stamped 'BREVES GALLERIES KNIGHTSBRIDGE S.W.3. PAT.APP.FOR 9865/28', on walnut pedestal height on mount 6in (16.2cm); mascot width 7 3/4in (19.7cm) Footnotes: One of the rarest models, 'Comète' commemorates the lighting display that was used in the famous Citroen advertisement, designed by Fernand Jacopozzi that elaborately illuminated the Eiffel Tower in 1925. This model often suffers from condition issues, owing to its unbalanced weight when not attached to a hood ornament or firm base. It is very rare to see this model without damage to the facets and points of the star. This example is in particularly good condition retaining its original Breves Galleries mount.
