Footnotes: Abiodun Olaku is one of the leading figures of the Lagos art scene. Born in 1958, he trained at Yaba College of Technology, graduating in 1981, and has worked as a full-time studio artist since 1989. Renowned for his technical precision and mastery of light, Olaku has developed a distinctive realist practice spanning portraiture, landscape and, most notably, scenes of Lagos. He is also a founding member of the Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria (GFA) and has exhibited extensively in Nigeria and internationally. Olaku's depictions of Lagos are among the most recognisable aspects of his practice. Working with meticulous realism, he captures the city through its crowded streets, traffic and constant movement, while his distinctive handling of light gives these urban scenes an almost cinematic quality. Olaku not only renders the true face of Lagos, but also captures the energy, rhythm and atmosphere that define the city.
