Canadian. 1855-1864. George Vair, dealer in dry goods & groceries, Belleville (Canada West). 3 gal cream crock made by Samuel Skinner when he ran the Picton Pottery. Skinner bird designs are rare and highly sought-after, particularly on merchant pieces. This is a fabulous example with a large detailed bird on a patterned field.
