The Apple TechStep was a diagnostic device for Apple products meant for distribution to Apple-authorized service technicians and repair stores and was never available for purchase to the general public. Based on the prototype label and 'Service Training' tag on the carrying case, this device is likely a pre-release testing model for Apple internal use only before larger distribution to third party repair stores began. The TechStep has different cartridges that can be slotted into the device and used to test for a variety of things including hard drive, CPU, and memory issues.
