The Newton MessagePad was Apple's line of Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), which were a big trend for tech-savvy business people of the 90s. First released in 1993, the MessagePad ran on its own specific operating system, Newton OS. A precursor to the smartphone and tablet, the MessagePad's principal functions included storing contacts, taking notes, and calendar management. One of the most innovative features of Apple's PDA was its 'Calligrapher' handwriting recognition program designed to allow users to write directly onto the device with a stylus, which the device would then convert into typed text. While not always accurate, the idea was cutting-edge at the time, and improvements were made to the software in subsequent editions of the MessagePad. This lot is offered together with an original Apple Newton light-up interactive store display with a flip book informational pamphlet as well as other artifacts related the Newton project including wall hanging, t-shirt, and sweater. At the time of cataloguing, the MessagePad powered on and booted to the Newton OS. NOTICE TO BIDDERS This lot is being offered as an antique and collectible only.
