Description
A Cold War East German "Feliks Dzierżyński Guard Regiment" Dress Uniform Lot of 5 in good to very good condition. The Feliks Dzierżyński Guard Regiment was a large, militarized security force of East Germany's Ministry for State Security (Stasi), created in 1951 and named after the founder of the Soviet secret police in 1967. Based mainly in East Berlin, it protected senior Communist Party and government officials, guarded important state and Stasi facilities, provided security during major events, and was trained to respond to internal unrest and wartime threats. By 1989 it had around 11,000 personnel and hundreds of armored vehicles, making it much more than a ceremonial guard unit. Its troops were selected partly for political reliability and received military and ideological training. During the mass protests of 1989, units were deployed for security duties, but the regiment ultimately did not carry out a large-scale violent suppression, and it was dissolved in December 1989 as the East German state collapsed.
