MARGOT DE TAXCO: A SILVER NECKLACE • Stamped MARGOT DE TAXCO, 5474, MADE IN MEXICO STERLING, with maker's mark • Inner circumference approximately 16 in. • Estimated gross weight: 104.9 grams Footnotes: Margot Van Voorhies (1896-1985) established the workshop Margot de Taxco in 1948. While travelling to Mexico City in 1937, she met Don Antonio Castillo with whom she would work closely in William Spratling's workshop; together they would go on to co-found the Los Castillo Taller along with the other Castillo brothers. The dissolution of their marriage led Margot to establish her namesake workshop, where she employed dozens of silversmiths to execute her designs and began exploring the practice of champlevé enamel, a distinction of her work amongst the other Mexican silversmiths of the era.
