Owen J. Roberts autographed typed letter (TLS), dated April 1, 1946, on official stationery of the Philadelphia law firm Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads, identifying Roberts as counsel. Addressed to Clarence Gardner of the American Foundation in Philadelphia and personally signed "Owen J. Roberts" in blue ink.

The letter concerns Roberts' receipt of the prestigious Philadelphia Award, an honor recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the Philadelphia community.

Roberts writes:

"As arranged with you on the evening I received the Philadelphia Award, I am sending you the card covering the award so that my name may be inscribed on it."

Written shortly after Roberts' retirement from the United States Supreme Court, the correspondence documents his recognition as a prominent Philadelphia civic figure.

Owen Josephus Roberts (1875–1955) was an American jurist who served as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1930 to 1945. Appointed by President Herbert Hoover, he participated in numerous landmark constitutional decisions during the New Deal era. Roberts also chaired the commission investigating the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and was a prominent figure in Philadelphia's legal and civic communities.
