Doss has autographed the cover in blue ink at lower right, adding "CMH" after his name. The cachet depicts Doss wearing the Medal of Honor and identifies him as a noncombatant recipient.
Accompanied by a printed biographical citation card reproducing Doss's official Medal of Honor citation, detailing his heroic actions on Okinawa in 1945. During the fighting at the Maeda Escarpment, later famously known as Hacksaw Ridge, Doss repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire while rescuing wounded soldiers and lowering them down the escarpment to safety. His story was later dramatized in the 2016 Academy Award-winning film Hacksaw Ridge.
Fine condition.
Desmond T. Doss (1919–2006) was a U.S. Army medic and conscientious objector who served with the 77th Infantry Division during World War II. Refusing to carry a weapon because of his religious convictions, Doss nevertheless repeatedly entered combat to treat and rescue wounded soldiers. His actions at Hacksaw Ridge on Okinawa earned him the Medal of Honor, making him the first conscientious objector to receive the nation's highest military decoration.
