William H. Rehnquist autographed official United States Supreme Court card, featuring the engraved letterhead "Supreme Court of the United States, Washington, D.C. 20543," along with the printed designation "Chambers of the Chief Justice."
Rehnquist has personally signed "William H. Rehnquist" in ink across the center of the card.
An attractive example of Rehnquist's autograph on official Supreme Court stationery, dating from his tenure as Chief Justice of the United States, a position he held from 1986 until his death in 2005.
Appointed to the Supreme Court by President Richard Nixon in 1972, Rehnquist initially served as an Associate Justice before being elevated to Chief Justice by President Ronald Reagan in 1986. During his nearly two decades leading the Court, he oversaw numerous landmark constitutional decisions involving federalism, states' rights, criminal justice, and presidential authority.
Among the most historically significant events of his tenure was his role presiding over the Senate impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton in 1999. He also led the Court during the disputed presidential election of 2000, when the Court issued its consequential decision in Bush v. Gore.
The card measures approximately 4.75 x 3.5 inches. Fine condition.
