Written on "The White House / Washington" stationery, the letter thanks the recipient for a message of support sent to President Lyndon B. Johnson during a particularly turbulent period of his presidency.
Johnson writes that "words of confidence from friends all over the country mean a great deal to us" and discusses the President's appeals for spiritual guidance, referencing "that very first day in November, 1963, to the rending hours of today." She also expresses disappointment at having missed the Prayer Breakfast that year, noting it was the first she had missed in many years.
The letter is signed "Lady Bird Johnson" in blue ink above her printed name. Accompanied by the original White House mailing envelope, postmarked Washington, D.C., February 13, 1968.
Fine condition with scattered age spotting and toning, most noticeably along the margins.
