William Green (1873-1952) was an American labor leader who served as president of the American Federation of Labor from 1924 until his death in 1952. A former coal miner and longtime official of the United Mine Workers of America, Green became one of the most prominent figures in the American labor movement during the first half of the 20th century. His tenure at the AFL spanned the Great Depression, the New Deal, World War II, and the early postwar period, during which organized labor expanded significantly in membership and political influence.
