William Bradford autographed manuscript document signed (DS), dated July 1789, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. An early American criminal indictment signed "Wm. Bradford Junr., Atty. Genl." during his tenure as Attorney General of Pennsylvania.
The document records a grand jury indictment against John Sanders, accused of stealing a black gelding valued at twenty-five pounds. The charge identifies the horse as the property of John Willis and describes the alleged theft as an offense against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Additional handwritten legal notations appear on both sides, including a record of the defendant's arraignment and plea of guilty.
The document measures approximately 8.25 x 13 inches. Very good condition with original folds, scattered age toning, minor staining, and handling wear.
