Details:
John Paul Stevens autographed First Day Cover (FDC) commemorating the 200th anniversary of the First Continental Congress, which convened in Philadelphia in September 1774.
The cover features an attractive Artmaster cachet depicting Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia, where delegates from twelve of the thirteen American colonies assembled to discuss their grievances against British rule. The illustration includes colonial figures gathered outside the historic building, accompanied by the inscription "Bicentennial First Continental Congress, 1774–1974."
Affixed at the upper right is a 10-cent Bicentennial Era commemorative postage stamp bearing the inscription "We Ask But for Peace, Liberty and Safety," with a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, First Day of Issue cancellation dated July 4, 1974.
Stevens has personally signed "John Paul Stevens" in ink across the lower right portion of the envelope.
An attractive association piece connecting a distinguished Supreme Court Justice with one of the defining events leading to the American Revolution. Although the cover was issued in 1974, Stevens joined the United States Supreme Court the following year, following his appointment by President Gerald Ford.
Fine condition with light age toning and minor handling wear.
