Details:
World War I-era pair of Liberty Loan honor emblem window decals, each measuring approximately 6.5 x 8.25", issued in connection with the Fourth Liberty Loan of 1918 and the Victory Liberty Loan of 1919. The colorful red, white, and blue pieces were intended for display in the windows of households and individuals who subscribed to the federal war-financing campaigns.
The first reads "Household / 100% / Honor Emblem / Victory Liberty Loan / Awarded by the United States Treasury Department" and includes printed instructions along the lower edge directing the recipient to moisten the top and bottom and apply it to glass. The second features an American flag and reads "Subscriber / Honor Emblem / 4th Liberty Loan."
Very good condition with expected toning, scattered soiling, edge, and surface wear.
The Liberty Loan program was created by the United States government to finance American participation in World War I through the sale of government bonds to the public. The Fourth Liberty Loan campaign was launched in 1918 during the final months of the war, while the Victory Liberty Loan followed in 1919 to help meet the enormous costs associated with demobilization and wartime obligations. Honor emblems such as these were distributed to subscribers and participating households for public display, making them highly visible symbols of patriotic financial support for the war effort.
