Details:
Jack Swigert autographed handwritten letter (ALS) on "The Swigert Senate Committee" campaign letterhead, written to "Edward." Swigert notes that he has enclosed the requested photograph and explains that since leaving NASA he has had to purchase his own pictures. He then asks the recipient to support his campaign, writing, "As I have helped you, would you also help me?" and requesting a contribution of "$15, $10 or whatever you can afford" to assist with the costs of the campaign. He closes, "Thanks so much / Sincerely / Jack."
A large Jack Swigert facsimile printed autograph also appears prominently across the upper portion of the campaign letterhead beside a printed portrait of Swigert.
Fine condition.
John L. "Jack" Swigert Jr. (1931–1982) was an American astronaut, test pilot, and engineer best remembered as the command module pilot of Apollo 13. Originally assigned to the backup crew, Swigert replaced Ken Mattingly shortly before launch and flew alongside Jim Lovell and Fred Haise on the dramatic 1970 lunar mission. After an oxygen tank explosion crippled the spacecraft, the crew abandoned the planned Moon landing and returned safely to Earth in one of the most celebrated survival episodes in the history of human spaceflight.
