Chennault and fought Japanese forces in China and Burma during the opening months of America's involvement in World War II. Chuck Older (1917–2006), Dick Rossi (1915–2008), Joe Rosbert (1914–2004), David "Tex" Hill (1915–2007), and Charles Bond (1914–1989) were among the American pilots associated with the celebrated unit, whose distinctive shark-mouthed P-40 fighters became one of the most recognizable symbols of American aviation during the war.
