Hugo L. Black autographed printed page titled "Members of the Supreme Court of the United States, October 2, 1967," featuring photographs, biographical information, and signatures of all nine members of the Warren Court. Personally signed by Justice Hugo L. Black in blue ink across the center-left portion of the page.
The printed roster documents the complete United States Supreme Court as constituted on October 2, 1967, featuring the following nine justices:
Earl Warren – Chief Justice (1953–1969)
Hugo L. Black – Associate Justice (1937–1971)
William O. Douglas – Associate Justice (1939–1975)
John Marshall Harlan II – Associate Justice (1955–1971)
William J. Brennan Jr. – Associate Justice (1956–1990)
Potter Stewart – Associate Justice (1958–1981)
Byron R. White – Associate Justice (1962–1993)
Abe Fortas – Associate Justice (1965–1969)
Thurgood Marshall – Associate Justice (1967–1991)
Hugo Black's signature is an original handwritten autograph. The signatures accompanying the other eight justices are printed facsimiles reproduced as part of the original roster.
The document is particularly interesting for its October 2, 1967, date, marking the day Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court Justice, officially took his seat on the Court. This roster therefore documents the beginning of a historically significant composition of the Warren Court.
The reverse bears a PSA/DNA authentication sticker, numbered AD67837.
The printed page measures approximately 5.5 x 9 inches. Very good condition with overall age toning, some discoloration, and minor handling wear.
