George H.W. Bush autographed illustrated First Day Cover commemorating the 200th anniversary of Washington and Lee University. Bush has boldly autographed the cover in black ink across the lower center.

The cover bears the 3-cent Washington and Lee University commemorative stamp with a Lexington, Virginia, April 12, 1949 first-day cancellation. The Cachet-Craft design depicts George Washington and Robert E. Lee above an illustration of the university campus and commemorates the institution's 1749–1949 bicentennial.

George H.W. Bush (1924–2018) served as the 41st President of the United States from 1989 to 1993. A World War II naval aviator, he later served as a U.S. Representative, Ambassador to the United Nations, U.S. envoy to China, Director of Central Intelligence, and Vice President before becoming president.
