Details:
John G. Woolley autographed handwritten notation on the lower portion of an August 13, 1908 typed letter from Seymour Morris of Chicago. The 8.5 x 11" letter was written to Woolley requesting assistance in locating cabinet-sized photographs of Woolley and fellow Prohibition Party presidential candidate James B. Metcalf for a collection of presidential candidates dating back to 1789. Woolley responded directly on the letter, advising that his photograph had been taken by a photographer in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, whose name he could not recall, adding that he was "the leading photographer there," and suggesting the name might be "Scandinavian Reason" before signing, "Yours Truly, Jno. G. Woolley."
The handwritten reply provides an interesting example of an autograph request answered personally by Woolley and reflects the growing interest among collectors in assembling photographic archives of American presidential candidates during the early twentieth century.
Very good condition overall with expected mailing folds, light toning, and scattered handling wear.
