Christopher Gore autographed document signed (DS), dated June 22, 1809, appointing Loummi Baldwin of Cambridge as a Justice of the Peace for Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
The partly printed commission, headed "The Commonwealth of Massachusetts," appoints Baldwin to serve a seven-year term, authorizing him to exercise the powers and duties of a Justice of the Peace.
Signed "C. Gore" by Governor Christopher Gore and countersigned by William Tudor as Secretary of the Commonwealth. An impressive embossed Massachusetts state seal with a decorative sunburst border is affixed at the upper left.
The reverse contains an additional official certification dated July 3, 1809, recording Baldwin's appearance before local authorities to take the prescribed oaths of office.
The document measures approximately 9 x 15 inches. Very good condition with original folds, scattered age toning, light staining, and minor edge wear. The embossed state seal remains intact.
