Units listed include the General Staff, Morgan's West Cavalry, Buce's Company, Russell's Battery, and Douglas' Battery. The heading notes the brigade was commanded by Lt. Col. Russell, and the report is certified and signed at lower right by A. A. Russell.
Overall good condition with expected age toning, scattered staining, fold lines, edge wear, and several small areas of paper loss, primarily along fold intersections and the lower left edge. Measures approximately 15.5 x 10.25 inches.
Brigade morning reports were prepared each day during the Civil War to document the operational status of military units. They provided commanders with a detailed accounting of troop strength, personnel available for duty, casualties, illness, prisoners, and other changes affecting a unit's readiness. Reports such as this offered an essential administrative record for monitoring the condition and effectiveness of Confederate forces in the field.
