Details:
Desmond Doss, John R. Crews, Eugene B. Fluckey, and Ernest Childers autographed a commemorative cover honoring the Four Chaplains who lost their lives aboard the USAT Dorchester on February 3, 1943. The four Medal of Honor recipients have signed across the front of the cover, with several adding military or biographical notations.
Ernest Childers has additionally inscribed the very upper edge, "To: Chuck Morgan," followed by his signature and a notation referencing his Medal of Honor action at Oliveto, Italy, on September 22, 1943. Crews has added "WWII 4-8-45," while additional handwritten notes identify Fluckey as a Medal of Honor and Navy Cross recipient and skipper of USS Barb.
The Cachet Craft design memorializes the Four Chaplains—John P. Washington, George L. Fox, Clark V. Poling, and Alexander D. Goode—who gave up their life jackets and went down with the Dorchester after it was torpedoed during World War II.
