Details:
Draper Hill autographed a 1974 First Day Cover commemorating Expo '74 and the theme "Preserve the Environment," extensively embellishing the cover with multiple original ink caricature sketches. Hill has inscribed the cover at lower right, "For Chuck Morgan with every good wish!" and signed "Draper Hill."
The cover bears two 10-cent Expo '74 "Preserve the Environment" stamps with a Spokane, Washington, April 18, 1974 first-day cancellation. Hill's original drawings fill much of the open space surrounding the cachet and cancellation.
Accompanied by an autographed handwritten letter (ALS) from Hill to Chuck Morgan, dated February 4, 1997, and written on both sides of an irregularly torn section of a letter sheet. Hill discusses Morgan purchasing one of his original drawings, noting that he generally received between $100 and $1,000 for an original published drawing and telling Morgan, "Suit yourself - I'll be fair to you." On the reverse, Hill asks whether he recognizes Morgan's handwriting as that of an artist he remembered as "Charlie Bird," formerly of Mount Clemens, Michigan, and provides his Grosse Pointe, Michigan address.
Fine condition. The accompanying letter is written on an irregularly torn section of paper as described.
