Details:
Tom C. Clark autographed typed letter (TLS), dated January 16, 1971, on official Supreme Court of the United States stationery bearing the heading "Chambers of Justice Tom C. Clark." Addressed to Julien Elfenbein of Mamaroneck, New York, and personally signed "Tom C. Clark" in black ink.
In this friendly letter, Clark thanks Elfenbein for his correspondence and discusses the possibility of adapting his books for motion pictures.
Clark writes, in part:
"It's too bad that you are so adamant about movie rights for your books - your manual would reach some who could make good use of it!"
He concludes by inviting Elfenbein to contact him if he visits Washington, extending his best wishes.
An interesting piece of correspondence from the former Supreme Court Justice, written approximately four years after his retirement from the Court.
Accompanied by the original Supreme Court mailing envelope, bearing the printed heading "Supreme Court of the United States" and "Official Business," with a postage-paid designation.
Fine condition with original mailing folds, and minor handling wear. The accompanying envelope exhibits scattered age toning and handling wear.
Tom Campbell Clark (1899–1977) was an American jurist who served as United States Attorney General from 1945 to 1949 under President Harry S. Truman before his appointment to the United States Supreme Court. He served as an Associate Justice from 1949 to 1967, participating in numerous landmark constitutional decisions, including Brown v. Board of Education (1954). He retired following the appointment of his son, Ramsey Clark, as Attorney General.
