Details:
Robert H. Jackson autographed postal cover, postmarked Washington, D.C., January 29, 1945. Jackson has personally signed "Robert H. Jackson" in blue ink above his typewritten name and title, "Justice of the United States Supreme Court."
The envelope bears a 4½-cent White House postage stamp and is addressed to Sigurd Berg of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
An interesting wartime cover dating from the final months of World War II, just three months before President Harry S. Truman appointed Jackson as the United States Chief of Counsel for the prosecution of Nazi war criminals.
Jackson subsequently served as the chief American prosecutor at the historic Nuremberg Trials, delivering the prosecution's opening address on November 21, 1945. His role in establishing individual accountability for war crimes remains one of the defining achievements of his legal career.
The cover is particularly desirable for its January 1945 postmark, predating Jackson's appointment to lead the American prosecution at Nuremberg.
Very good condition.
