John Bull (1731-1824) was an American military officer, Revolutionary War patriot, and Pennsylvania statesman whose military career began during the French and Indian War, when he served as a captain and participated in the Forbes Expedition against Fort Duquesne. During the American Revolution, Bull became an active participant in Pennsylvania's movement toward independence, serving as a delegate to the Pennsylvania Provincial Conference and as a member of the Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention of 1776. He served as a colonel of Pennsylvania troops, supervised the important defenses at Fort Billingsport on the Delaware River, and was appointed Adjutant General of the Pennsylvania militia during the Philadelphia Campaign. He later commanded a brigade of Pennsylvania militia and continued overseeing defenses in the Philadelphia region. Following the Revolution, Bull remained active in public affairs and later served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
