Details:
Robert H. Jackson autographed official United States Supreme Court card, featuring the engraved letterhead "Supreme Court of the United States, Washington, D.C."
Jackson has personally signed "Robert H. Jackson" in black ink across the center of the card.
An attractive example of Jackson's autograph on official Supreme Court stationery, dating from his tenure as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1941 to 1954.
Jackson is particularly remembered for his extraordinary role as Chief United States Prosecutor at the Nuremberg Trials following World War II. Appointed by President Harry S. Truman in 1945, Jackson took a leave of absence from the Supreme Court to lead the American prosecution of major Nazi war criminals before the International Military Tribunal. His opening and closing arguments at Nuremberg remain among the most significant statements in the history of international criminal law.
Before joining the Supreme Court, Jackson served as Solicitor General and Attorney General of the United States under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. During his judicial career, he authored several landmark opinions, including the majority opinion in West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette (1943), which held that public school students could not be compelled to salute the American flag or recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
The card measures approximately 4.25 x 3.25 inches. Fine condition.
