Herbert D. Ward autographed handwritten letter signed (ALS), accompanied by its original mailing envelope, written from Newton Centre, Massachusetts, and dated February 12, 1907. Measuring approximately 8 x 5.25 inches, the letter is addressed to Dr. A. B. Coolidge of the Cosmos Club in Washington, D.C.
Ward explains that another physician has given him an "ultimatum" and that he expects to leave for Washington the following week. He asks Dr. Coolidge if he may stay with him during his visit, writing in part, "Can you put me up then as you do kind friends? It will be a great pleasure to me, and will there be a room for me?" Ward also inquires whether Dr. Coolidge can help him obtain a letter from Senator Henry Cabot Lodge before closing, "As always," and signing the letter, "Herbert D. Ward."
Accompanying the letter is its original mailing envelope, printed with Ward's Newton Centre return address and postmarked Boston, Massachusetts, February 12, 1907. The envelope is addressed in Ward's hand to "Dr. A. B. Coolidge, The Cosmos Club, Washington, D.C.," preserving the complete historical context of the correspondence.
