A desirable autograph of the Connecticut Founding Father and Continental Congressman who became one of America's earliest diplomats during the Revolutionary War.

Silas Deane (1737-1789) was an American Founding Father, merchant, Continental Congressman, and Revolutionary War diplomat from Connecticut. A delegate to the Continental Congress, Deane was sent to France in 1776 on a secret mission to obtain desperately needed arms, ammunition, and military supplies for the American Revolution. He later served alongside Benjamin Franklin and Arthur Lee as one of the American commissioners in France and played an important early role in securing French assistance for the American cause.
