Details:
Revolutionary War-era hand-drawn Pennsylvania land survey, 7.25 x 6", dated May 31, 1775, depicting a tract surveyed for Francis Jones in Westmoreland County. The manuscript survey incorporates a detailed ink boundary plot with courses and distances, streams, neighboring properties, and surrounding lands identified as belonging to Lewis Bush, Ezckeel Edwards, and others.
The surveyor records: "Survey'd to Francis Jones on the 31st May 1775 the above Described Tract of Three hundred & Ten Acres & Allowance of Six pCt... on the North Side of Crooked Creek adjoining Lewis Bush in Westmoreland County," noting that the survey was made by warrant dated April 14, 1774. The document is signed at the conclusion by the deputy surveyor. The reverse bears additional period docketing identifying "Westmoreland County / Francis Jones 318 & Allowance," together with a later manuscript notation concerning ownership of the tract.
Dated May 31, 1775, the survey was executed during the opening weeks of the American Revolution, little more than a month after the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Westmoreland County then represented part of Pennsylvania's rapidly developing western frontier, where land warrants, surveys, and competing claims played a central role in settlement. The hand-drawn plot provides a record of colonial-era land administration at the moment the thirteen colonies were entering the Revolutionary War.
Very good condition with expected folds, toning, scattered staining, minor edge wear and small losses. An archvial paper reinforcement is present on the reverse along one fold.
