Assistance overwintered in the ice during their searching expedition to find Sir John Franklin's arctic party, the captains organized entertainment to pass the time and maintain morale. These entertainments included the Royal Arctic Casino (H.M.S. Resolute) the Royal Arctic Theatre (H.M.S. Assistance). The events were publicized with broadside playbills printed on paper (as here) or silk on small steam-presses aboard the ships. These events carried on a tradition begun by Parry on his first Arctic voyage.
